Smart Channel is a feature within the LINE app which gives recommendations to the user in a variety of ways, and handles more than 16 million content items that are delivered to total of 167 million users in Japan, Thailand and Taiwan. The number of daily requests sent to Smart Channel exceed two billion, making it one of the largest services among all of LINE’s operations in terms of scale. Operating a service of this scope presents a variety of problems.
This session will cover how we designed our systems with consideration for the difficulty of these problems. We'll discuss the various problems we encountered in the three-year period following the service's release. Some problems were specific to LINE, while others are a common occurrence with server-side applications. We'll share some of the more interesting experiences we’ve had and introduce our initiatives for resolving these problems.
