Yahoo! JAPAN runs over 14,000 MySQL servers, and LINE runs over 6,000. In this session, the two companies will each share the distinctive features of the MySQL environments they operate.

Database administrators (DBA) from both companies will discuss key topics and share information about the environments they use.

Expected topics

- Number of servers and specifications of the MySQL environments at each company 

- Names and features of the DBaaS tools provided to developers 

- Handling measures for cases not covered by DBaaS tools 

- Good points of the MySQL environment at each company 

- Points the DBAs would like to change 

- Future evolution of each company’s environment

    Tsubasa Tanaka is a MySQL specialist DBA with credentials such as MySQL User Group deputy representative and Oracle ACE pro (expertise: MySQL). 

    Tsubasa’s motto is “I can’t do Oracle or PostgreSQL, but I can use MySQL”.  

    Tsubasa’s favorite MySQL version is 8.0.28, favorite storage engine is InnoDB, favorite variable is  GROUP_CONCAT, and favorite debug_sync is open_and_process_table.

    Makoto Sato joined Yahoo! JAPAN in 2012. After gaining experience from working on the development and operation of Yahoo! JAPAN’s advertising platform, as well as continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) promotion, Makoto has been engaged in Oracle/MySQL operations on the Group companies’ database (DB) team starting in 2016. Makoto contributes to the stable operation of the critical DBs for payment services and e-commerce and has been recently working to improve database-related skills in not only administration (DBA) but also reliability engineering (DBRE).
